Get Off My back

I believe medication is a very necessary tool to help recovering from all kinds of illnesses - including mental health difficulties. But one drug that people have had trouble discontinuing when it is no longer necessary or tolerable is a popular SSRI. One person in a medical forum blog actually said discontinuing this drug was “harder than withdrawal from heroin.”
After the loss of my son in 2007, I was given this particular drug to assist with the intense grief, and life adjustment disorder that my surviving children and I were experiencing. Having my life in order, and a firm footing again, I decided to get off the medication (because I view drugs as a “band-aid” to treat SYMPTOMS). What I experienced each time I tried to taper down and discontinue it was horrendous. there is not another word I can use to describe it. I found the following post and decided to post it here for your information. It is always advisable to have your doctor approve going off any medication so that you can be safely monitored - but even then - if you are suffering debilitating withdrawal, you need to have everything in your arsenal to keep your body comfortable so that you can be productive!
